NewsIndeed, The Toughest Race!

12:00, Tuesday 5th September, 2023, Andros Island, Greece.

The 56th Andros Race co-organized by Yacht Club Greece, and Yacht Club Andros delivered yet again the conditions that won long time ago the title of “The Toughest Race”.  OPTIMUM Sailing Academy Dehler 30ods LAVORO III and OPTIMUM 4 sponsored by LALIZAS S.A., PERFORMANCE Technologies and Quantum Sails competed for second consecutive year, offering the opportunity to young, eager up and coming sailors to raise their game.

“The race proved to be a huge experience.  Race 1 of 72 miles from Vouliagmeni to Andros was 14 hours in light patchy winds that tested our patience and determination to push all the way.  A full moon night race to remember… Then, on local Race 2, in 25+ winds and serious waves we broke the mainsail halyard and had to abandon racing.  After checks and repairs we were ready and confident to hit the pedal to the metal for final Race 3.  It turned out a full adrenalin affair in 35+ knots of wind and mountainous waves to “jump” upwind for a while, followed by impressive wave surfing under spinnaker in 20+ knots of speed.  Amazing and unforgettable sailing along with two quality parties offered by Andros Race sponsors Eurobank and Porsche.  The cherry on the cake was the prize giving ceremony in the unique Yacht Club Greece premises where my OPTIMUM Team collected its share of silverware.  I would like to thank Kalamaki Nautical Club and O.S.A. for trusting me as the only female skipper in this tough race”, says Anna Agrafioti (OLY).  Anna represented Greece in London Olympics (2012) in the Laser Radial sailing class and has selected O.S.A. of N.C.Kalamaki for her immersion in offshore racing.
