{"id":487,"date":"2014-05-19T13:47:26","date_gmt":"2014-05-19T10:47:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/optimumsailing.gr\/wordpress\/?p=487"},"modified":"2014-05-26T13:37:50","modified_gmt":"2014-05-26T10:37:50","slug":"1st-regatta-for-2014","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.optimumsailing.gr\/wordpress\/1st-regatta-for-2014\/","title":{"rendered":"1st Regatta for 2014 is Done &#038; Dusted"},"content":{"rendered":"<address>Faliron Bay, Sunday May 18<sup>th<\/sup> 2014, 20:00.<\/address>\n<p>OPTIMUM Yacht Racing Team completed the first regatta for the 2014 season in Faliron Bay, Athens, competing for the \u201cH.O.R.C Cup\u201d, a two day regatta, compromising by up to 6 inshore Windward-Leeward races.\u00a0 Sunday was a repeat of Saturday\u2019s perfect sailing conditions of steady 10-14 knots breeze under sunny blue skies.\u00a0 As such, the Racing Committee started 3 races per day and OPTIMUM-ASPIDA-SAXOBANK scored 8, 8, 10 and 6, 7, 9 respectively each day, to get 10<sup>th<\/sup> place on the scoreboard out of 14 yacht fleet.\u201cIt is early days for the OPTIMUM Team for 2014 and almost 6 months out of action!\u00a0 We used this regatta to fine tune the mast after stepping it back in place last week and test in anger the new systems installed over winter.\u00a0 All 25 team members put in lots of work every afternoon this last week to prepare OPTIMUM 3 for demanding inshore round-the-buoys racing.\u00a0 We got mixed feelings for the results and we certainly fought hard to improve race by race.\u00a0 Yacht racing is pretty complicated and during debriefing we sorted out few things that we can clearly work on and try to improve performance in both systems and crew work.\u00a0 Thumbs up for rival yacht team MY WAY for sweeping the competition with a score line of 1, 1, 1, 1, 2, 1, and out winning the regatta!\u201d commented mainsail trimmer Gerasimos (Jerry) Petratos during the prize giving ceremony\/souvlaki party that took place right after racing in the H.O.R.C. dock in Mikrolimanon, Piraeus.It was also the first appearance of the OPTIMUM Team in the new \u201ctwo tones of blue theme\u201d representing the team sponsors ASPIDA Maritime Security and SAXO BANK, that got overwhelming positive comments for creativity and beauty.<\/p>\n<p>OPTIMUM-ASPIDA-SAXOBANK crew line-up for the two-day regatta consisted of\u00a0 Alexandros Sofroniadis, Alexis Marugas, George Hatzigeorgiou, Thanos Papasideris, Nikos Apostolakis, George Kyragiannis, George Belesis, Alexis Chrysochoides, Patroklos Tachtatzis, Manos Roudas, Nikos Lazos, Periklis Livas,\u00a0 Gerasimos Petratos and Panos Moraitis.\u00a0 The title of Most Valuable Crew (MVC) for the regatta was won by trimmer and Quantum Sails designer Patroklos Tachtatzis for his spinnaker trimming calls that kept all crew focused during the downwind legs.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Faliron Bay, Sunday May 18th 2014, 20:00.
