{"id":1742,"date":"2026-06-03T11:30:42","date_gmt":"2026-06-03T08:30:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.optimumsailing.gr\/wordpress\/?p=1742"},"modified":"2026-06-03T11:30:42","modified_gmt":"2026-06-03T08:30:42","slug":"time-and-budget-have-arrived-and-the-fun-factor-hit-the-roof","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.optimumsailing.gr\/wordpress\/time-and-budget-have-arrived-and-the-fun-factor-hit-the-roof\/","title":{"rendered":"Time and budget have arrived, and the fun factor hit the roof!"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>10:00,&nbsp;Tuesday&nbsp;1st&nbsp;June&nbsp;2026, Nautical Club Kalamaki, Greece.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>OPTIMUM S, our thoroughbred raceboat is for sale.&nbsp; However, as it was announced in February during the 33rd season Team OPTIMUM Pita ceremony, if not sold by early May we would get OPTIMUM S back in action for Posidonia Cup, as our patron\u2019s wish.&nbsp; As such, our great patron J.H.I. Steamship, provided the means for a 20-day training and race schedule culminating towards a great showing for Posidonia Cup.&nbsp; Team OPTIMUM members were excited to get their feet wet again on OPTIMUM S, put up the work and were rewarded podium places in all three races they entered, pleasing and honoring at the same time J.H.I. Steamship commitment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe put the boat back in the water on Thursday May 14th late afternoon, and water and soap-washed her from top to bottom thorougly.&nbsp; Friday we installed back all blocks, lines, running rigging, mast head unit, foam rail hiking pads, carried on board the sails and set up the mainsail on the mast tracks and boom.&nbsp; Weekend one we clocked &nbsp;two 3-4 hour training sessions to get back our choreography in line and weekend two we competed in the Spring Series.&nbsp; A 27-mile coastal on Saturday under rain followed by a shorter one on Sunday in great sunny conditions.&nbsp; Line honors and 2nd place on handicap in both races under shifty 10-20 Knots of wind.&nbsp; We had no \u201cThings to do list\u201d recordings &nbsp;and all crew enjoyed sailing &nbsp;to her paces.&nbsp; Then Friday May 29th arrived for the Posidonia Cup race and boy we were hot off a packed start, pushed all the way, wind clocked up to 26 knots and averaged about 18 knots on a 21-mile coastal course with an upwind-downwind initial section of about 2 miles.&nbsp; We took line honors in the Performance class (33 boats) and 4th on handicap, and managed 2nd&nbsp; place in Performance 1 division (11 boats), securing a podium appearance in the high calibre prizegiving ceremony in the same evening. Then, we spend weekend three to wash sails and put them back in the container, take off away from the sun and dust all removable items from the deck, clean thorougly inside out and pack for lifting the boat out early Monday.&nbsp; That was all folks, wish we have a chance to sail her again, it is so fun and rewarding!\u201d says Lambros Nakis, Team Optimum member for 19 years, who left his post as a mainsail trimmer to cover the pitman role as Nikos Apostolakis had a shoulder injury few days before the boat hit the water.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We can only thank J.H.I. Steamship Co. of John Inglessis family for their total support for seven years now, and we are happy we had the chance to have as guest crew two new J.H.I. Steamship associates, Mr. John Bravos and Mr. Andreas Diamandis that had a serious hands on experience on the pedestals!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Team OPTIMUM &#8211; J.H.I. Steamship amateur but passionate spirit was present at this 20-day period by the following team members that put the work onshore and offshore and shared the happy ending: &nbsp;Thodoris Papakyriakou, Vasilis Kritidis, Lambros Nakis, &nbsp;Nikos Apostolakis, Nikos Kountouriotis, Giannis Kyragiannis, Giannis Kavalaris, Giannis Kapos,&nbsp;Manolis Markogiannakis,&nbsp;Stavros &amp; George Papadopoulos-Kouklakis, Charis Piperakis, George Panagiotidis, Patroklos Tachtatzis, Nikolas Stavropoulos, Christos Stathas, Evangelos Nikolaidis, Nikos Lazos and Periklis Livas.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It was proved that Team OPTIMUM has OPTIMUM S in a ready to race and win mode, so we can react to any opportunity in limited time.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To be continued\u2026<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>10:00,&nbsp;Tuesday&nbsp;1st&nbsp;June&nbsp;2026, Nautical Club Kalamaki, Greece.
