Volissos, Chios Island after race3 of 59th Aegean Rally, 16 June 2022.

Team OPTIMUM-Samos Steamship continues racing in the 59th Aegean Rally. Two more races took place starting and finishing in Marina Limnia, Volissos. Race 2 was a 45 miles trip to Venetico rock and back in fresh meltemi wind conditions. Race 3 was a 38 miles windy trip too, to a buoy just outside the Marina of picturesque Psara Island that was a stopover in last year’s edition of the Aegean Rally. Team OPTIMUM managed a 4th and a 3rd place respectively and sits on 4th place ahead of the final race 4 return trip to Cape Sounio via Cavo Doro.

“The more miles we race, the more we learn to race fast and efficiently our new weapon of choice OPTIMUM S. The courses of race 2 and 3 offered us the opportunity to sail the boat offshore for first time, downwind, upwind and various reaching angles in briskly wind conditions. We are fast in straight line speed but we fail to perform at starts, around corners and wind transition zones. However, all Team OPTIMUM-Samos Steamship members are in high spirits and keep trying and learning how best to sail our new thoroughbred race boat”, said Team OPTIMUM co-principal Nikos Lazos at the conclusion of race 3.

Tomorrow the participating fleet will depart from Volissos for the concluding race 4 of the 59th Aegean Rally after enjoying a fantastic local prize giving ceremony event followed by a great party with exceptional food, drinks and dancing. We can only praise our loyal supporter Samos Steamship Co. that provides the means to participate in this lengthy race and gain valuable time on board.

One day to go, stay tuned!
